Benjamin Sparks
Ben’s chief aim is to “make complicated things simple.” While he specializes in tax-related matters, he often assists clients in a variety of legal complexities, including starting a new business or acquiring an existing one, expanding a business into broader or new markets, bringing in new investors, and reviewing agreements with customers or vendors. Ben’s extensive tax background allows him to regularly assist clients in resolving business issues while taking advantage of hidden opportunities.
He helps numerous clients in working through their existing tax disputes. When a taxing agency comes calling, it is often difficult to figure out how to proceed and find a cost effective way to solve a difficult problem. Ben has assisted clients, both individuals and companies, in working through various audits and disputes, including IRS and state franchise tax, sales and use taxes, property taxes, and even gross receipts liquor taxes.
Ben has assisted churches and other nonprofits in navigating some of the legal complexities associated with being a tax exempt entity, including by working through the appropriate filings with the IRS and the USPS (to obtain tax exempt bulk mail rates), as well as setting up the appropriate leadership and management structure, both internally and as reported to the state.
Additionally, he has extensive experience in the areas of domestic and international planning and structuring (through start up, acquisition or expansion), and corporate versus flow-through alternatives. He also has significant experience with financial institutions and financial instruments.
Ben often works with CPAs, investment advisors, marketing professionals, internal business leaders and other similarly situated key individuals in making sure his clients receive the most positive impact and informed decisions affecting their business and their lives.
